GOLF...
The
resort of Belek (20 minutes drive from Antalya) is the
heart of the golfing region. It boasts some of the best
designed and maintained golf courses in Turkey all of which
have 4 and 5 star hotels right on their doorstep.
SKIING...
Antalya
is known for its mild winters and bathing is possible most
of the year.
However just over an hour's drive away up in the mountains lies the small
skiing resort of Saklıkent. The season is quite short usually from January
to March but is well worth visiting during the week when it is relatively
uncrowded.
HORSEBACK RIDING...
There are great riding opportunities in the countryside around Antalya.
The best known riding stables are Bagana Ranch (0090-242-425 22 70),
Oranj Ranch (242-824 62 90) and Tigem Boztepe (242-71432 06)
Tip: bring your own riding hat with you.
JEEP SAFARI...
Travel Agencies organise daily jeep tours up into the Olympos and Taurus
mountains. Experience some of the world's most breathtaking scenery.
WHITE WATER RAFTING...
The Köprülü Canyon National Park is the most popular starting point for
safe yet thrilling white water rafting trips down gushing rivers ....
TURKISH BATHS...
The traditional Turkish bath is the result of the emphasis put on cleanliness
by Islam. Known as 'Hamams' they have been part of the Turkish culture
for centuries having originated with the Ottomans.
A visit to one of these historical steam baths will take you back in time.
It is a deep cleansing ritual quite different from anything you would have
experienced before. An invigorating session in a hamam will leave you refreshed
and relaxed.
DIVING...
There are several diving centres dotted around the coast. Most
hotels have one. The waters around Antalya are clear and allow
excellent vision when diving. There are still many ancient artefacts
at the bottom of the sea for all to see.
TREKKING / LONG DISTANCE WALKING...
There are many fascinating walks and treks up in the mountains
or along the coast to be discovered by the serious (or not so serious)
walker. The newly waymarked long distance footpath "The Lycian
Way" (in Grande Randonnee style) is an opportunity to see
rural villages and the remains of ancient civilisations off the
beaten track. Contact TODOSK (Taurus Mountains Sports Club)

YACHTING...
The best way to see the beautiful coastline of Antalya from the sea
is of course by yacht or gulet (Turkish style wooden vessel). The most
popular trip takes a week (or less if required) and is called the blue
voyage. It takes you around the unspoiled bays and beaches of the Turkish
Riviera. Daily boat tours to waterfalls cascading into the sea are also
very much in demand. These can be organised through Turkish travel agencies
or simply by applying directly to the boat owners in the harbour (haggle!)
